Today, I discovered that my work had charged me for a “gift” I had received for Christmas. They decided I needed a watch more then money. FML

Yeah, that's super illegal. Presuming other people got the same treatment I'd post an anonymous note in the break room about how that's illegal and then talk to H.R. about getting reimbursed. Post the note first so that you can play dumb about it and avoid recriminations ("Hay, I saw this note in the break room, is that true?", etc.). Normally shouldn't have to cover your butt like that, but if they're that shady then you probably do.
