Today, my girlfriend of eight years explained to me that the Egyptian pyramids were built by aliens from Mars. I have a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Anthropology, and I'm working on my Ph.D. She thinks I'm an irrational idiot for telling her she's wrong. FML

Today, I found out that one of my colleagues believes that aliens built the pyramids. No amount of logical reasoning or evidence has had any effect on his argument of, "but you can't prove they didn't." FML

My mom thinks that aliens helped the egyptians too, and the mayans. I'd have to agree with my mom and your gf tho..how else would they do? They found etchings from cave people and the mayans of "aliens" mishappen people with helmets and weapons. You explain that one to me.

Maybe the Atlanteans helped them. Or the Illuminati? I'm not really sure why people feel an extraterrestrial/ supernatural is necessary. All you need is an understanding of basic mechanics, a few thousand slaves and long time to do it.

I don't see how YLIF because your girlfriend disagrees with you. Are we not allowed to have our own opinions no matter how un-logical they are? I have a 'friend' who seems to think that if he gets electrolysis to rid his body of hair it will alter his DNA so his children will not inherit the hair...yet at the same time he understands that ugly people who get plastic surgery to make themselves pretty will not pass on those altered looks. So if you think she's a 'tard just think about him...doesn't make her sound so dumb now does it? A lot of people believe aliens did it...I'm still on the fence about it myself. Ok not really---but I do believe aliens exist...its awfully chauvinistic of us to believe otherwise. If you really think that because of this YLIF dump her...you don't belong together if you can't allow her to have a difference of opinion...So you have studied this subject? Who cares, we are just guessing anyways---sure they are educated guesses but no one knows for sure...there isn't one person a live (unless vamps really exist) who saw it...so no one actually knows. Most everything was destroyed back then...if a war broke out entire villages were rampaged and burnt down, there by destroying any historical documents we could use. I'm not saying at all that your wrong in your assessment, I'm just saying your wrong for not allowing her her own opinion. Lets all be a little more open minded and less judgmental people---through out history we've always judged and persecuted people who thought outside of the box but because of those people thinking like that we've got air conditioning, this nifty internet, a car to drive around in, houses, roads, running water...I can go on...but I think you get the point. We may as well go back to believing the earth is flat and the sun revolves around us.

I think you are missing the point. I respect her right to *have* an opinion. Her *actual* opinion is pretty stupid, mainly because it is based on lack of knowlegde and frankly,her lack of imagination ("I can't see how humans could do that")

This FML is the first I've ever heard of aliens building the Egyptian pyramids. I guess aliens also played a part in building the World Trade Center, the Sears Tower, Mt. Rushmore....because there's NO way human beings could have done it themselves. Especially not in times of slavery (like ancient Egypt) when people would have been FORCED to do it. Nope, no way, can't happen, definitely the Martians doing it. ...OP is completely right in his reaction. She has the nerve to say HE is the "irrational idiot"?! My boyfriend is an educated person as well, as am I, and if I started saying stuff like "Well, I think rain is actually just the aliens from Mars crying on us and you're an irrational idiot for thinking otherwise", I'd expect him to dump my ass in a heartbeat. Although if he did, I can take comfort in the fact that you'd be there, defending my right to my opinion =)
