Why did you tell him that it was a word? He's your husband, you're not five years old. When he explains something to you, he should do it as an adult conversation... unless you don't understand how conversation works. Either way, your own fault.

Alternatively, maybe she witnessed a 'feminist' using this term in an argument, later telling her husband about it because she found it annoying, and isn't herself the kind of person to use it as an argument.
