Today, my young kid came home from school with a ukulele she's been practicing on all year in music class. After an entire school year, she knows one chord, is tone deaf, and has been strumming and singing for an hour. She intends to do this every day this summer for more "practice." FML

How do you know she's tone deaf if she knows just one chord? Show her some YouTube movies to learn some more chords. Learning new chords on a Ukelele is not hard at all and it will enable her to play 'real' songs in no time. You really should be thrilled that your child has the dedication to learn a musical instrument instead of being negative about it.

Send her outside to practice.

I know exactly what you feel, OP, my Kid learned to whistle and is now trying to show me how loud she can whistle. Right into my ear. Mostly when i'm not expecting it.
