Today, I told my boyfriend of nearly a year that I finally told my mother about him, and that she wants us to fly out so he can meet her. He said “OK” with a blank expression. I went to work, and when I got home, he and all his stuff were gone. He left a note on the fridge, saying, “Sorry, I can’t do this anymore. All the best.” FML

The surprise was he’d moved out, dumped me, and cut me off from his share of the bills, because he’s not interested in marriage and babies. I can’t afford the rent by myself so I’m going to have to move back to my mother's. FML

Not really enough details to be sure, but I suspect you had a commitment-phobic boyfriend. Meeting the parents is a significant step in a relationship… While this hurts, you’re probably better off than spending the next several years with someone who cannot commit to a relationship… There are many ways to kill a relationship. Pushing for a commitment too soon is one but that’s not what this sounds like. And running from a commitment is another.
