Today, a guy made fun of sexual assault victims, and laughed when he heard they’re getting money and support. He also said I look like his next victim. I hit him, unapologetically. My friends told me to apologise, and that he’s really a great guy. No longer my friends. Talk shit, get hit. FML

Today, I was in a support group talking about how my sister and I were raised in a cult. Never one to be outdone, the loud mouth of the group piped up and scoffed, “Oh please! If it didn’t make the news and no one died, then it wasn’t a cult!” Sorry I wasn’t murdered. It was still abusive as fuck. FML

Today, after weeks of therapy for severe depression, my therapist thought it would be helpful to confess my deepest problems to my friends, to prove that it was alright to trust people. I did. They laughed. Hard. FML

Today, I was telling my friends a story. I added a few "embellishments" to make it more intense. One my friends piped up with, "I was with you, half of what you just said wasn't true". It's now all over Facebook and I'm known as "The Bullshitter". FML

Today, during a family dinner, my uncle asked if anyone had any embarrassing stories. Feeling brave, I told them about my recent breakup. It might be time to re-evaluate your friendships. For the ones who chuckled that could have been a reflex response but for the one who made the comment I would probably have hurt had I been in your shoes thats not something that should ever be joked about and especially when it's somebody opening up

When I tried to give my parents just a piece of the reasoning behind my suicide attempt, they laughed too. It's awful, and I'm really sorry, OP. Some people may just have no clue how to react to those kinds of things.

Are they idiots? Yes. But they probably just didn't know how to react. It's not that they don't care about you or what happened to you; it's impossible to find the words to say when someone trusts you enough to confess it.
