Today, we spread my uncle's ashes at my grandparents' house. We were on a hill overlooking a sunset. It was a beautiful ceremony… until the winds changed direction. Our whole family wound up covered in my Uncle. He's still stuck in my hair. FML

Wow, looks like your uncle has seperation anxiety. You should feel blessed, it was a gesture of love on his part. Unless he's one of those annoying uncles in which case he came onto you as a prank.

same thing happened to my stepdad's family when they spread his father's ashes. it's apparently an unpleasant experience for most.

This actually happened to my uncle's wife. Her parents died within a very short time of one another...and she & her siblings went back to their home country (England) and decided to spread the ashes at sea. Everyone was a little teary eyed not just from the ceremony, but from the cold air blowing & water coming right at them. Two siblings dumped one set of ashes over...and everything was fine. Then my aunt & another sibling went to dump the second container of ashes over the side, they were not sliding out as easily as the first set...and they tried to bang it against the deck railing to tip them out...the boat rocked at just the right moment as they were going to hit the railing...and the cannister flew up & spit ashes into my aunt & her bro's faces. Their damp faces. She said it was really horrifying while they were there. But once they were home & all the ashes were out of her mouth & nose, they couldn't help but laugh.

thats why its nasty to spread people ashes... even if the wind didn't change people would still breate in your dead uncle sick...
