Today, my parents yelled at me for coming home at 1am this morning from a friend's birthday party. I'm 30 years old. FML

Why are you still living with your parents? You live under their roof, you follow their rules.

You're 30 and live with your parents? You're on your own on this one, buddy lol

Are you people forgetting we're in a recession? There's no shame in someone living with their parents if they can't get a good enough job. And these days, a lot of people have already moved out and then ended up moving back in when the times got tough.

Why does everyone here assume that the OP is a guy?

Because I'm a guy and I even know that the most people who stay with their parents are guys, it's a stereotype, but for the most part it's true. Women are more independent then us guys *sighs*

#74 - Even in a recession I've managed to live on my own. You just have to know not to spend your money on stupid shit. I've been supporting myself, my 10 month old son, and his mother on just my McDonalds paycheck. You just have to be smart about where your money goes.

Hmm, everyone on here sounds so judgmental and uneducated. He could be in a totally different culture, as #37 said, or he could have been talking to his parents about it later. If he was living with his parents, that doesn't necessarily mean he is a lazy bum. He might have lost his job or is suffering from a decrease in pay because of the economic crisis. Or, to get rid of the "woe is me" stories altogether, maybe he was visiting his hometown. Seriously, guys. If you don't know the situation, don't go screaming "omg u loser fyl your old and fail at life" or something equally ignorant. That being said, OP, if you have indeed been living with your parents for any period of time, then you need to abide by their rules. I'm still voting YDI.

What's funny is that most of these posters are probably in their teens/twenties, uneducated, ignorant, and hate their own lives so they have to rag on someone else's. ;) C'mon, guys, you don't know his situation. If he's in the USA, then with the economy the way it is, it's understandable if someone has to move back home. Along with financial issues often comes divorce/separation, so who's to say he wasn't married or with someone before? Plus like someone else said, it's possible he's of a different culture wherein many people of the same household living together isn't unheard of, even into their mid-lives. Hell, I'm 22 and still live at home because I can't find a job and the economy is too unstable to get an apartment. Plus if I did get one I'd likely have to have roommates again, and ugh. Been there, done that (when I was 19, and only for a few months before I lost my job the day after my 20th birthday), and honestly, my mom is a LOT more respectful of my space than my roommates were. (So I guess that's why I feel kinda bad for this guy. His parents obviously don't see him as an adult. :| Maybe if he'd made a huge ruckus as he returned, they'd have reason to yell at him, but otherwise? Not really...) Of course, then there is a chance that he's just a big slacker who doesn't know how to take care of himself. In which case I gotta say that falls on the parents. You're supposed to prepare your kids to survive in the world! And all these people saying "omg just get a girlfriend": um, what, and depend on her to get by? Then he's not really moving up because he's still relying on someone else to help him live. ...And that's all I have to say. >_> tl;dr: don't be so ignorant.

Even if you are too old to be living with your parents, I still think that they may be a tad too strict.

haha even when I was still living at home at 19 I could come home at 4 am or not at all and still be fine...but you are 30 and still living with your parents which is more of an FML than getting yelled at for coming home past your "curfew" hahaha
