Today, I woke up my friend and had him take me to the ER. I had trouble breathing and my chest hurt, so the doctor put me on an EKG and took X-rays. I had strained my chest lifting weights at the gym earlier that day and pulled a muscle, and now thanks to my massive anxiety I have a $700 hospital bill. FML

Honestly, though, you'd think you'd learn. I appreciate you're a caring parent, but don't be overprotective.

As terrible as that is to pay, better safe than sorry

Sucks that it cost so much, but you made the right call. Chest pain can be super serious. I'm glad you're ok.

This is why it's great living in countries with free healthcare. This would have cost me $0.

I had a cold last fall that weakened my pectoral muscles. the weight of my boobs caused a strain that required a brace and physical therapy exercises to fix.

Wow. That's shitty. Sounds like amazing boobs though.... Looking for a gf?

Last winter my man was clutching his chest, could barely walk, barely breathe, in imense pain. I made him go to the hospital, fearing heart failure, turns out it was just inflamed lungs and the only thing you can do for it is ibproufen. that was a day in the hospital, and $1,000 wasted. But better safe than sorry. But this is the reason a lot of, americans mostly, don't go to the doctors because even if it turns out to be nothing it's still like $500, so most people just wait it out. I hate it, shouldn't life be worth more than money?

So sorry about the bill OP but thankfully it really was nothing serious. Better to go and make sure you're ok than ignore a serious problem

$700? You must have really good insurance.

I rather pay 700 instead of finding out I have so.ething more serious

Better safe than sorry. Lots of people die (or have serious complications) at home of heart attacks because they assumed it was just gas or would go away. When it comes to the heart, it's always best to get it checked out, even if you're embarrassed or unsure. Being short of breath is a very serious sign so you did the right thing. Please don't ever let this deter you from getting it checked out should you have issues ever in the future (which hopefully you never will).

How the hell did an er visit only cost you $700???? You must have wicked awesome insurance!
