my guess is her husband committed fraud in their marriage by cheating and financially trapping her. I don't know much about the law but I think Judge Judy would probably give OP a break. :)

OP, my ex did something similar. I explained the situation to the person I signed the lease from and they allowed me to break the contract due to the extenuating circumstances. See if it is at least a possibility. If there are fees that need to be paid, your soon-to-be ex can pay for them.
