Does he live with his parents? If so, he may have household obligations that he should fulfill. Was there a family event, like a funeral or a dinner? Sometimes girlfriends aren't invited, especially when they're in the "going out on dates" stage. If he's a mommy's boy who hasn't clipped the apron strings yet, you might want to find someone who's a bit more independent.

He's a legal adult but still lives with his parents...still he should make is own decisions
dump him, if hes still sucking in moms tit at age 23, he'll still be on it at 43.
I hope you've parted ways? What's he going to do when planning his wedding? Schedule it a later date because his mom is busy that day a year out?
Not following moms orders can be scary no matter what age you are.
Ask his mom if he could come out and play.
