Can't afford this shit

Today, I was cleaning my father's study room and wondering why I did not receive my acceptance/rejection letter from a college I really wanted. I found the acceptance letter, on his desk, also approving of a full scholarship. The deadline to confirm was a month ago. FML

I say major letting go issues

YDI for not following-up with your family on such an important letter.

good god I would've murdered him if I were you.

That's ******* awful. Your dad is a worthless piece of shit for doing that.

everyone saying YDI probably doesn't understand the entire process of applying to college and all the variables. some colleges send acceptance letters in january, others in june. obviously the OP was sitting around hoping his/her letter was coming soon, but still thought it was on its way. and they wouldn't know the deadline to claim the scholarship because it PROBABLY just said the deadline in the letter. I'd say the OP doesn't deserve this at all and it is a TRUE FML. hope you can somehow work it out, OP.

I'm with #193. depending on the institution, this totally isn't your fault. Comments keep saying that you should have checked online or called in. But take NYU for example; they have a clear "acceptance letter only" policy, so there's no checking online. Or Pace, who admits people on a rolling basis so you have no ******* idea when a letter will be coming. You definitely didn't deserve it. But hopefully, you can contact the school and negotiate something. Cuz that's ****** up. P.S. I know how stressful and frustrating the "waiting" phase of college acceptance/rejection process can be, and if I were you, I would've ENDED my father's life. Painfully. And slowly.

I'm calling shenanigans. I just finished applying, and every single college I've ever heard of does not allow you to even apply for scholarships until after you are accepted. The letter could not have contained scholarship AND acceptance information. People who lie on this site for attention are pathetic.
