76, yeah pucks go fast, obviously its possibly to move in/out of the way how else would a goalie make a save
Are you sure this was a professional game? Are you sure this was... real? :|
Just 'cause it was in a movie or TV show doesn't mean it can't happen. The netting is only on the ends of the ice, not all the way around, so it is possible for pucks to go into the stands still. Just because someone didn't die, didn't meant that they didn't get hit by the puck. In order to die, you either have to 1) get hit in just the right place (temporal lobe, especially) or 2) get hit so hard that blood starts leaking from the vessels in your brain and causing swelling of the brain. The areas that aren't protected by net are where the shot isn't going to be that hard anyway, so you won't have a severe injury. Chances are since this person didn't die, it wasn't going to be on the news; perhaps it was shown while the game was being played, but it's not going to make national news, or local news for that. You may see it coming, but not all of us have excellent reflexes much like goalies who are always making the saves, so paying attention may not always help.
That's hockey... learn to ******* pay attention. You deserve that shit.
Pretty sure all rings are surrounded by hard glass and nets. There's no way this could happen...
The people that are saying it can't happen obviously have never gone to a professional hockey game in their lives. The netting is only in the offensive zones of the ice (ala, the area behind the nets). The other 100 feet of the rink aren't covered except for the five feet of glass and the boards. Obviously, the OP wasn't hit with a 105 mile per hour slapshot from Zdeno Chara. He was more than likely hit from a puck that went out of play from a deflection off a stick or the glass. This is not an uncommon occurrence at all or a situation that is a "once in a lifetime" thing. It happens all the time at professional hockey games, and the arena does as much as it can to keep people from getting SERIOUSLY injured. They warn you that they have enhanced the measures of pucks entering the spectator area, but to be aware that they still can be deflected in certain situations. That doesn't mean the audience shouldn't be on alert at all times. It sucks, but it's the price to pay when you go to a hockey game and you aren't paying attention. Even if the OP doesn't have Spiderman reflexes, if they were paying attention to the play, they more than likely would have noticed the direction of the play and the fact that, ya' know, the puck was deflected over the glass.

that sucks you should have punched him
Stupid old man. Should have nailed him in the mouth and taken the puck. See how many cheers you would have gotten...
