I'm sorry this is happening. Just try to ignore them. Also, I don't want to tell you what to wear, but are you wearing a good sports bra? As a D-cupped runner, I know the right bra is super important. Moving Comfort's Fiona is great and often goes on sale, Under Armour has a few high-support models, and there are others as well. Vic's Secret and Dept store bras are often not good enough for jogging.
not relevant to the sad acts cat-calling OP - I just read it as a handy tip from one woman jogger to another.
Moving comfort is AWESOME. I'm not that well endowed but it definitely helps with the pain!
Good lord! What the hell is wrong with dudes?? Seriously - dickbags like that should be beaten.
Reason #49297 why we need feminism. Sorry OP. Hope you were able to enjoy your jog anyway
Not feminism. Basic respect will cover this.
you need feminism to get rid of somebody's ability to say things? okay because that'll definitely work. feminism is about getting equal rights. not forcing men to not voice their opinions. if you really were an actual feminist you'd cat call right back instead of whining about words. no, wait, if you were a real feminist you'd be trying to help women in third world countries where they actually don't have as many rights as men instead of trying to control the populace of first world countries, where they are completely equal, because you get "triggered" over people saying you have a nice ass. you don't need feminism to protect you from catcalling. those men just need to learn how to be decent human beings instead of assholes.
People like you haven't seemed to realise that it's the fact that cat calling makes many women feel unsafe and uncomfortable. I used to be nervous walking the halls of my old HS alone because the boys would harass me (even after a guard yelled at them). Also, you should trivialise or try to silence other people just because "someone else has it worse!!!!"
shouldn't*
"One grabbed his crotch and waved it at me." I know it's just semantics, but I really wouldn't mind if he actually had to detach his groin in the process.
Where are you running at?! Down the road all the local bars are located?! Look at different running routes that will help you avoid the areas where men congregate. People tend to get a "Mob" mentality when in a group and are braver because they are anonymous when they melt back into the crowd. I think you both deserve it and your life sucks.
why should she have to do that? she has a right to run wherever the **** she wants without being harassed
What the hell? You're the one assuming OP chose a poor route, and then you blame her for your assumption. That's just idiotic. Not to mention, a life in which you need to deliberately /plan/ not to be harassed is pretty undeservedly ******.
21, Seriously? Victim blaming? Are you also a supporter on how women should dress a certain way to try avoid getting raped? Because in my eyes, we need to educate people (but in this case, men) on how to control their sexual urges. Behavior like this is never acceptable. Shame on you.
#21 ... I really want to believe you're trolling, but the problem is that you're not the only one that thinks like that, and thusly, you're perpetuating the victim blaming mentality. Allow me to present you with 3 golden rules to prevent you from making the same mistake the next time you feel like a woman was asking for cat calling, raping, sexual harassment etc. 1. No woman is ever asking for it. 2. No woman is ever asking for it. 3. No woman is ever asking for it without verbally declaring that, yes, I am indeed asking for it. (signed contracts preferred, but not essential)
Holy shit the feminazism, obviously op thinks alot about herself, did everyone forget the feminist moron who walked around a city for 12 hours only to have nothing happen when she was trying to prove how much a woman gets cat called, so someone yells something at you, so what? it's your choice to be offended. if you're that easily offended maybe you should just develop a good case of agoraphobia.
Call me immature but I would just flip them off. This actually happened to me when I went to India and even though I was dressed as conservatively as possible people thought I was older than I was not sometimes with guys like that it helps to either glare them down or just pretend you never saw them
This is why I like to look as scrubby as possible when I exercise outdoors. Men tend not to catcall a woman with straggly, sweat-soaked hair, raggy sweats, and the most boob-compressing sports bra I could find and zero makeup on. That isn't say you were somehow asking for it, AT ALL, mind you. You should be able to dress however the hell you want and jog in peace. Just ignore them to the best of your ability, OP. Eventually they'll get bored and stop, once they see that they can't get a rise out of you.
I've been cat called at 11pm during the winter (loose big clothes) while on a walk with my mum. I had a middle aged man make kissy faces at me when I was FOUR. Ive had a guy join me in a restaurant and refuse to leave me alone while I was just trying to enjoy a sandwich. Ive had boys continue to harass me at my old HS even after a guard yelled at them. If you look like a lady, jerk offs will bug you.
They're all probably a treadmill salesmen.
I feel sorry for you, it must have been horrible.. But please tell me you were not wearing skin tight jogging clothes or a low slung vest when you jogged. Thats just asking for it. Mens nature wont change. On the flip side why when women eye up men its fine, but when men do it to women its horrible and "men are pigs" ... Double standards.
I don't think many people have really said that here? When people do say that I think they do get told off, thankfully. Only people I see who say that are sexist women on tumblr sometimes. And when women eye up men they don't usually grope them and catcall...
#34 You repel me. Have a nice day!
Are you the type to think a rape victim deserved it for wearing a dress? Victim shaming really? Wtf is wrong with you, she should be able to wear whatever the **** she feels comfortable in while jogging, Mean should be taught to control there sexual urges while in public, if not for her then for public decency. Also anyone who cat calls or gropes anyone in public are disgusting men and women alike
There's a difference between checking someone out and catcalling. Have you ever had a woman thrust at you as you walked by? Has a woman ever almost hit you with her car to tell you "nice package" or "nice ass"? Probably not, because this is mainly a problem that women have with men, not the other way around. It's a show of dominance. And it doesn't matter if this woman was running in tight clothes, baggy clothes, or butt ass naked. She WAS NOT asking for it. Stop blaming the victim. Maybe instead, figure out a way to have men contain their urges to harass a women that's minding her own business on her jog.
