Today, I arrived to the Philippines with my girlfriend to visit her friends and family. I was hoping for conversation because I was told they spoke English well, but when I tried to strike a conversation with her family, they laughed then fell silent as we ate. I'm to uncomfortable to speak. FML.

Did your girlfriend tell you they speak English well? If so maybe they are just messing with you for the time being but don't let it get to you, it could be some strange sort of a test for you

I'm from the Philippines. We might have an odd sense of humour to those who aren't familiar with it, but relax and just go with the flow, things will get more comfortable. It takes a while for us to warm up to a stranger, but once we do it's pretty easygoing from there.
