Just because he's your dad doesn't mean he automatically has to give you the job. You should have to compete with others just as or even more qualified than you. That's how the world works
You've been jobless for years? Your upset your pops didn't hand you a job you don't deserve? Vote for Bernie! He'll fix it all =)
No, he had his pride for years.
I can't believe this is an FML. Some highly qualified applicants may have not even gotten call back, never mind an interview. Given this economy and the scarcity of jobs, please stop complaining, and start preparing for the interview. And while you are at it, don't forget to thank your dad for the opportunity before you, despite your pride.
Welcome to the real world. Time to strap on your big boy pants and earn your position instead of being given one.
Good for your dad. Instead of giving an inexperienced candidate the job based entirely on him being his son he's giving him a fair chance like everyone else. If only all bosses were like that.
Really, guys? Really? No one of you would EVER consider asking a family member for a job if you couldn't land a job and had bills to pay? I mean, I'm not saying he should get the job, but you're crucifying him for asking. I would do the same thing. Those of you who have never been in such a position, count your blessings. It sucks... a lot.
It's not the asking that is the issue. the reason for the fml seems to be that the OP was expecting to get the job just because it was their father.
he isn't allowed to just give you a job op, at least you have a chance
and what did you expect? Choosing workers based on family relations is illegal in pretty sure
An interview with 10 candidates is not too bad, OP, I hope you get the job and it works out for you. My dad let me work briefly at his company part-time, without an interview. He had me do unpaid overtime every day, would constantly complain about my work and then payed me half the money we agreed upon. His idea was to "toughen me up" for the real world, because "business owners are vultures".

Just because he's your father doesn't mean you've suddenly earned a job at his company. While it's be nice, you should still put forth the same effort to get there as anyone else.
So you feel you should be handed a job you may not be able to do for free?
