Today, after the longest time, I went to the gym. I ran and ran and ran on the treadmill for an eternity, beating myself up for getting so overweight. Then I tripped and fell off, sweating and sobbing for being so useless. When I looked up, I saw I'd been on the machine for barely 2 minutes. FML

Today, I joined a gym. I’m overweight and not very athletic, so I was nervous. I looked around and tried a treadmill. I start walking at a chill pace, then got ambitious and cranked it to a "light jog." Within seconds, I tripped, fell, and sent the emergency stop button flying across the room. The gym staff ran over and I swear someone said, “Well, at least he’s trying.” FML

Soon those two minutes will turn into twenty. You are putting the effort in, which is more than a lot of people can say for themselves.

Don't worry about being overweight and going to the gym. At least people can see you are actively trying to pursue a goal. Keep your head up OP! :)

Take it slow, no reason to start off with the harder shit if you're not ready for it. Good on you for at least trying OP.

Also your should look into just doing swimming because it is the most aerobic exercise with the least amount of joint stress which for an overwieght person is a good thing.. I'm only saying this to be a helpful person

As a fellow fatty that's working it off, I gotta say that running was probably the best thing that I have done. I had given up pop and had cut down on candy and sweets, but I was still struggling. I tried running on my own for awhile but didn't have the motivation so I joined my schools cross-country team to give myself something to run for. By the end of the season I had taken over 10 minutes off of my 3 mile time and had lost over 20 pounds. Once I saw the effects it had it really inspired me to start working out in all aspects and I have to say I feel so much better about myself it's amazing. Good luck and don't lose hope, just keep on truckin'.

I have a friend that wast really fat but he also wasn't very thin he was just a little chunky and last summer he stopped eating lots of junk foods and started to eat salads and vegetables and also ate less and he ran a lot to and when I saw him towards the end of summer for the first time in a while I didn't even know who he was because he had lost so much of the extra wieght that he looked like a new person it's crazy

Keep at it OP and find an exercise routine that you like enough to stick with. Any exercise that you do is better than sitting on the couch.

Try Couch to 5k. Sets reasonable goals each week to build up stamina and strength. These days I can do 40 minutes straight through (2 YEARS after I started running). Also don't try running too fast. C25k is set up for walking at 4mph and running at 6mph, though depending on your stride those may change. I do 6.2mph for running, 7+ for a short sprint (like 60 to 90 seconds).

Wait it says that this was posted on November18th wtf

Also, don't beat yourself up about it. It's just going to discourage you. Just do your best and try to improve yourself, and don't compare yourself to anyone. Even on bad days when you're too tired to go more than a few minutes, at least you got up and went, and next time you'll do even better! *pom pom*

You should be proud of yourself for getting up and going. Don't focus on the fall. Pick yourself up and keep going. At least you're trying to make a change.

Start with a speed walk before you start running if you're overweight and falling off the treadmill.

OP, at least you're trying, that in itself is more than most people, be proud of what you've done! Strive for greatness!
