Content almost refused by staff

Today, after taking time off of work because my mom was hospitalized for a life threatening condition, my mom asked me if I was having a nice vacation from work. FML.

Parent in the hospital with a condition that could kill her isn't a big enough reason for it to be an FML? If not, maybe the fact that the mother implied, intentionally or not, that she thinks OP's only reason for getting time off was to take a vacation; which probably came across as if the mother was saying OP didn't love her and just found the illness convenient.
