Well, he was disappointed. You're surprised? And then he still tried to be polite, so you raised him right. Depending on his age, this is perfectly acceptable. He wasn't rude or hateful. You didn't expect him to be thrilled, did you? He'll get over it.
Surprise him with the game he actually wanted when it's back in stock. And next year try to plan ahead!
What, kids aren't allowed to display emotions? He didn't throw a tantrum, he didn't become violent, and he tried to be polite. Teaching kids that they aren't allowed to be disappointed at a less than ideal outcome and that they are even less allowed to display that emotion is not a healthy thing to do to them.
