Today, I woke up to balloons, streamers, and my roommates yelling “SURPRISE!” Unfortunately, they got the wrong day. My birthday is next week, and now I'll probably have to pretend to be surprised again in seven days. FML

Today, I went to a surprise birthday party for a friend. Everyone was hiding and waiting to yell "Surprise!" when I got a call from my mom. I was loudly discussing family gossip and trying to get my mom to hang up when the door opened. Everyone yelled "Surprise!" and then turned to stare at me. FML

You are correct, but SO MANY of these "FML" entries are unbelievably lame. Like, "Today, I got dressed in the dark. I noticed later at work that one sock was grey, and the other a slightly different shade of grey. Tragically, it was too late to go home and change FML." sheesh.
