Today, I got my new work schedule. I really need the hours. The boss says he can't give me more because the economy is bad. However, he did find enough hours to hire his son last week. This week? Most of my hours were erased and given to the new employee; his daughter. FML

Today, I got notice that I didn't get the new position I applied for at work. After two interviews, pay negotiation and paperwork, as well as years of giving this place all my time, I found out my boss gave it to his friend's daughter, who has no experience or credentials needed for the position. Today, my boss told me I have to start work 4 hours early tomorrow, because that my coworker, who happens to be his son, will not be coming in because he's "too tired". I work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week without complaining. His son works two 4-hour shifts a week. FML

Today my boss informed us that there were no more single shifts we were all working doubles until further notice. Also there’s a way for us to “earn” a half day but we have to out sell everyone else in the office to get it. So being new I haven’t had time off in two weeks... FML

Today, I was fired from my job for "lack of work". What that means is that my boss hired his good-for-nothing lazy son, who then got too big of a mortgage, and he had to let me go to pay him a higher salary. FML

Today, I found out via a voicemail from my boss that my hours are being cut. He said, "They said I can't fire you, so you'll only be getting 20 hours a week. Starting today." Who'd they give my other 20 hours to? The one person that calls off sick almost daily and is never on time. FML

Today, my boss got mad at me because I told her that I wouldn't be able to work two days out of the week, due to college classes. She then cut back my hours so much that I now only work one day a week. I got the job in the first place to pay for my college classes. FML

What the boss is doing sucks but is perfectly legal. How imbecilic do you need to be to fail to comprehend that picking one employee over another is 100% legal if not done out of racism etc?? There's NOTHING in the law against hiring your kids. Especially if it's a family company, though we don't know if it's the case. Nepotism SUCKS hard, but it's perfectly legal in most cases. And quite frankly, OP is a complete moron for assuming that when the economy is bad, the boss will pick her over his own children for no effing reason!!

Also it's probly the boss being polite blaming the economy when he's meaning to say you suck at your job let me bring in my kid to pick up your slack. So get ready to find a new job 'cause he's cleaning house and planning to get rid of you anyways. I feel your pain OP.. i feel your pain. I unfortunately left office life for a part-time job to reduce stress and found myself a job at this awesome family business. I was up for management consideration, until one of their family members needed a job. Now I run the risk of getting written up and fired if things aren't up to his standards... WHICH CHANGE DAILY!!! Best thing to do is show your boss that you're better suited for the job; and then go around applying for different jobs. Nothing is going to change, you can huff and puff but if there's one thing I have learnt, it's that family trumps hard working employees in a pinch.
