Yeah they try to sell us on the "college is everything" route then when we finally graduate we can't get work in out degree fields and people without a degree are making more. My friend couldn't get any work so she applied at a gas station to be told she was "over qualified".

The key word here is "unionized." They probably used their Union to get their pay upgraded. That's kinda how those things typically work. Doesn't mean it doesn't still suck for you, but it at least makes some kind of sense.
