Today, my husband of five years told me he's leaving me and will be gone when I return from Iraq. When I told him I love him and asked him not to go, he said he won't file divorce papers just yet, but he's moving out-of-state because "we need time apart." I've been gone for most of the year. FML

You need to hurry up and divorce him ASAP - you can't fix douchebag, and if you convince him not to leave you now, he'll probably just wind up hanging around for a few for more years before he really does leave you, except by then you'll have been married long enough for him to be entitled to a percentage of your retirement that you're earning in Iraq right now.

That's a dick thing to say. It's fine to hate the people who started a stupid useless money based war, but not at all fine to hate on the troops themselves, they're brave people (who don't deserve dick husbands).

A lot of soldiers go over there to kill people who would other wise kill MORE people....but i guess america always has to be the bad guys, and we're just imagining the car bombs that IRAQIS set off over there to kill other IRAQIS. A lot of soldiers go over there to rebuild shit that was ruined. you don't give a shit about the majority of citizens over there. People like you only care about the elite class who want us out. Troops are over there literally handing small businesses money. Seriously.

She could have easily joined the military before the war. Nothing is saying anything about her age. If you're a soldier, you can be deployed, regardless of how you feel about the war. So that's why you should support the troops... they can't all do as they choose to. And you don't know what she does. Perhaps she's with the relief work, like someone said? Perhaps she's a nurse? Perhaps she's a technician or engineer over repairing or setting up something? There are more things to do in the military than shoot people.

Just because some dick head decided to start a pointless war, and decided to sacrifice millions of lives for no apparent reason doesn't mean you can blame the troops. The OP obviously signed up for the army. It doesn't mean SHE HAD THE CHOICE TO GO TO IRAQ. She sacrificed her freakin life to come home to a douche bag of a husband. being Forward Deployed in the Navy i know what it's like to get screwed over and spend so much time away from home. Just hang in there. Being in the Military, we always get the short end of the stick relationship-wise. He'll come to his senses and realize what you have to go through for him and for our country.

Kudos for being part of the backbone of your nation. But it's hard to criticize the guy so hard when women do it to the men in the armed forces even more so (mostly because there's more men then women in the armed forces). Be strong. Chances are he's intimidated by the fact your stronger (as a person) for what you do then he is. You'll find a guy you can be with, be strong!

I would criticize any one that did that. Male or female, but I grew up an army brat. He's probably only not filing because he's hoping that there is an off chance something might happen to her and he won't have to.

Actually I slapped one of my (now ex) best friends before because she cheated on her fiance in front of me while he was in Iraq just like my husband. I despise anyone who does it, no matter if it's a man or woman. Even if he didn't cheat and just wanted a divorce he should have waited to tell her until she's home. It's not like it would be inconvenient for him since she is not even around.

I was talking to my aunt about her experience with my uncle being deployed during Desert Storm and how it is handling the distance. I met a guy a few months before his 18 month deployment and we got close so now I'm going through the hardships of being away from him, even though it was a very short time before he had to leave. She told me about how she couldn't stand the other military wives because of how they ran around on their husbands and acted so ridiculous. She was never that type of person and didn't want to be around the wives acting that way. I feel the same as she does. I can't fathom how they can do that. I told him I would wait for him and I have every intention of doing so, even as just a girlfriend and not a wife.
