sometimes, a mother can be a bitch. leaving your kid's stuff at home during a road trip because you didn't feel like making space to fit it is a bitch move

OP packed their luggage and set it where their mother could see it, presumably with the rest of the luggage. Sounds like mom was in charge of packing the car. In a normal family, this would go without a hitch and they'd have no reason to think that their luggage wouldn't make it. OP's mom malfunctioned. That's not OP's fault.
