Today, the couch I ordered finally arrived. It was a long search and a little expensive but worth it for the extra comfort. It is perfect, except for the fact that it doesn't fit thought the staircase of my building. Now it's standing in the hallway because they won't take it back. FML

You say your building, which makes it sound like it's an apartment complex. Probably should have measured that before making the purchase, and like has been said, you also probably should have had it assembled once it was in your home rather than before.

This is why couches should ever only be fully assembled if they're on display. Pieces in a box or boxes is the way to go.
