1) Was it that you couldn't fix it or that you didn't know how? 2) Instead of letting some kid be punished, suck it up and ask your bf for help. Hell, appeal to his manly ego and add in a "since you're so good with tools" if you have to. Desperate and pathetic as that would be, it's still better than letting his little brother take the heat.

I couldn't agree more. OP needs to grow the hell up, take responsibility, and get her bf's brother off the hook for her screw up. This is a YDI if I ever saw one.
