Today, my nice, elderly neighbour died suddenly and I was helping his family sort through his things. I realised a lot of his stuff was familiar. In fact it was a lot of stuff I’d lost over the years, including the year I moved in. The bastard had been stealing things from my house for 9 years. FML

Today, I was at an estate sale of my neighbor who recently passed. I recognized many items for sale that I had ordered or won on eBay from the past 8 years. Turns out the little old lady had been stealing my mail for close to a decade. FML

Today, I found out that for the past 6 months I have been sleeping next to a dead body. The cremated body of my landlord's father. It was hidden inside a wardrobe that I was not supposed to use. FML

Today, I came home from a month long vacation to find my house absolutely trashed with a lot of valuable items missing. Burglary? Nope. My dad, who was meant to be house-sitting for me, let the neighbour's teenage son have several parties there in exchange for weed. FML

Today, I found out that one of my best mates had his backpack, clothes, and everything else in it stolen at an airport overseas. I was feeling sorry for him all day. It took me 9 hours to remember that I actually loaned him my backpack for his trip. FML

Today, my neighbour asked me to empty and unplug their fridge while they were on a vacation. I took what I could use and threw away the rest. It looks like I also unknowingly threw away a bottle of spices that were handpicked by her uncle and handmade with love, which her son loves eating too. I feel like a jerk. FML

Today, my uncle kept his promise and left me his holiday house in his will. What he didn’t tell me was it’s been unmaintained for 14 years and is unfit for human habitation, has 2 mortgages, and now it and all its issues are now mine. Old, dead bastard. FML

You shouldn't call him a bastard. There was something clearly wrong with him. If he was selling your stuff off to support a Viagra habit so he could bone your mom, that would be a bastard. Hoarding your stuff means he had some kind of weird attachment to you.

He had been stealing from her since the day she moved in, over nine years. I think bastard is a fairly light term for this unless there is some revelation of other mental health issues. We can't just assume he had them because he did weird stuff. He may have, and that may explain it, but telling OP not to assume he didn't is the same as me telling you not to assume he did. Neither of us know.
