You still know it. You just don’t realize you know it because you’re in a different situation. That happens all the time. People usually perform better when they’re tested under the same conditions as when they learned. Research has shown this to be the case. Hopefully you have a learner’s permit and someone to ride along with you as you practice, and also sitting in the car by yourself might help.
Often, a learner's permit doesn't allow you to drive by yourself. In this case, you may ask someone to sit shotgun and write in silence in a little notepad while you drive. This way, you will learn in the same conditions in which you will be tested.
Learning to drive is very difficult. There is no shame is abandoning the attempt and just rely on Uber and public transport. This is one case where quitters win!
Seems like you’ll fit right in with most of the drivers I see on YouTube. You’ll be fine.
It might be worth having a few more lessons where your instructor doesn’t really say much of anything while you drive—or even getting a different instructor (or several) to sit next to you and do that. That might help you get used to driving without this specific guy sitting next to you, and help build your confidence.
