Don't feel too bad. I've had that problem before with a particular type of faucet. I finally got it turned on and didn't know how I did it so couldn't turn it off.

Maybe you were overthinking it. I know it's happened to me (not with a sink though) a few times. I think something can't be as simple as it seems so I make it more complicated than it actually is.
I'm assuming its a sink with a seperate on than temp control. Maybe the person before left it on?
