Today I found out my ex-girlfriend from college, who had to leave because her visa expired after we dated for a year and a half, actually came back to the States two years later to get her PHD and didn't tell me. We had parted on good terms and were good friends to each other. I've given up on dating altogether. FML

Often when there is a breakup the person may act like they want to remain “friends” but usually they are just trying to soften the blow that they no longer want to be with you. I would say that’s what happened. When a relationship is over, it’s over. Allow an appropriate time to mourn and then pick up your life and move on.

Why didn't you go to her country when she got booted out of here? You didn't try an LDR? It doesn't take a Ph.D. to know you really weren't committed to the relationship, but it helps.
