Today, I told my husband I was taking him out for a birthday dinner date; it was actually a surprise party I'd arranged with his friends and family. We were a few minutes away when his mother called him to say she would be late. Surprise ruined. FML

Yeah, it seems like a lot of parents try to hurt their children's relationships. It wouldn't surprise me if she wanted to ruin the surprise. OP is great for putting in the effort though.

Well lesson learnt, dont involve parents in surprise planning. This is not the first FML where a parent has ruined a suprise. Anyone above 50 has a failing bullshit filter that will slip up.

Today, I found out that my boyfriend wrote 50 dollars on my gift card just to look generous, it's really only worth five. I found this out after I tried to buy an arm full of clothes. FML

Today, I found out it's apparently racist to point out that a person has a unique spelling for a common name. I then found out it's even more racist to yell at the person who tells you in a very condescending tone that "it's a common spelling," even though I've literally never seen it before in my life. FML

Today, there was a karaoke at my job's Thanksgiving party. A girl sang and sounded horrible. I later told a colleague about it and said, "She sucked so bad… if I wanted to hear an animal dying, I'd go to a slaughterhouse." She was within earshot and burst into tears. Oh, and she's my boss's daughter. FML

Today, my class had a group project. The teacher allowed people to opt to do it alone. I, an introvert with crippling social anxiety, was the only one to do it alone. I still finished before everyone else, with an A. The other students called me a "freak" and many other names, simply because I work better alone. FML
