Many jobs will pull crap like that, if you give them an option. If you tell them you ARE going to the hospital, and don't give them a choice, I bet they would find someone to cover.

that's when you call your DM and tell him/her what happened, and it his their responsibility to cover the shift or find someone to cover it because you are going to the hospital. they find someone real fast.

Sounds like OP really can't afford to lose their job. I've seen people come in to work with broken bones in half ass splints because they HAD to keep the job- and regardless of whether there are laws or not, there is always at least one person or company all too happy to break them.
