Today, my Jewish boyfriend came over for my extended family's Easter party. My grandmother made fun of him for being Jewish so badly, that he left, crying. She doesn't see what she did wrong. FML

I believe in respecting my elders, however is this situation I would have pulled my grandmother aside at the very first comment she made. I would have told her apologize and to change the subject and that if she continued WE would be leaving. Your boyfriend is a guest and should be treated with respect. I know family is important but there are lines you just dont cross. I can't believe you let the insults continue to the point he was crying. It's your family and you needed to have controlled the situation.

Aww your poor boyfriend! Sadly, some people still have a wrong oppinion of jews, still today, though mostly it is the elders, that grew up with this picture in their mind. I hope your boyfriend is ok, and that your grandmother apollogizes to him!

Frankly, I think he's kind of a wuss for not standing up for himself and his beliefs. It would have been better if he told your grandma, "**** you!" and left in anger, but I'm really disappointed that he left in tears. Man up!

#30 I can't offer much information on this subject, because like you said, I haven't done my time in the Israeli army. But personally, I wouldn't have stormed out after screaming foul language at her. Her LifeAlert might go "missing" though....

Sounds like Grandma needs a serious bitch slap. I'm sure that she not only upset you and your boyfriend, but she probably made the gathering uncomfortable for other guests as well. Why didn't you or someone else step up and tell Grandma to "shut the **** up!" And your boyfriend left crying? Not to direspect him, but it sounds like he needs to man up a little.
