This FML bugs me so much. Why would a diamond ring symbolize love and commitment more than a ring pop would? In fact, why do people make such a big deal with the whole idea of proposals and marriages? OP's boyfriend proposed to her, so I'm guessing he wants to be with her for the rest of his life (people CAN still be together for the rest of their lives even without getting married but that's a whole different thing to argue about). But why would he have to spend a lot of money and make a show of proposing? It's basically saying yeah hey ... if you're not willing to spend, then you're not the one for me. I, for one, would not like a big diamond ring. If he really wanted to spend a lot of money on me, I'd rather we go somewhere. But a simple "I love you, do you wanna get married and have a party?" would do perfectly.
