Context is important, so don't jump to conclusions. Maybe he was texting a friend who doesn't like you, and lied about intending to break up with you to get said friend off his back. Maybe a friend stole his phone while he was passed out or something and tried to prank you with that text. Not saying it's likely... just saying, don't jump in and do something you might regret.
Those two reasons two seem like grasping at straws, though. You never know, it could always be... that your boyfriend is too much of a little bitch to break up with you to your face that he sent that text to you on purpose, so that you'd know the two of you were breaking up. Or he's just really really stupid.
