Today, I was walking down the street when a police officer started walking behind me with his dog. I sped up and tried to cross the road. He took this as suspicious and got the dog to take me to the floor. I've been afraid of dogs since I was 5. FML

I would sue his ass off. If he thought you looked suspicious he should have ordered you to stop. The dog should be used when all peaceful efforts fail.

ummm a suspicious move doesnt mean a dog take down sounds like you hve grounds for a lawsuit or at least a complaint against the officer

I'm scared of dogs too so I understand, mind you I'm deathly afraid of large dogs but I'm okay with small ones. What I do is I would pause until the person passes by or I would walk side by side with a friend or a stranger.

Darlings, don't blame OP for their fear. Everyone has their fears for some reason or another. I'm scared of heights because children on the playground always through it was fun to push me off the top of the monkey bars when I was still very little. It traumatized me over time and it's not exactly something I can just 'get over'. OP could have been attacked by a dog when they were 5, thus triggering the traumatic fear. Have some sympathy.
