Get packing!

Today, I was able to check my voicemail and email for the first time in two weeks. The only message I got was from my landlord telling me that the house I'm renting is in foreclosure, and I needed to have all my stuff out in ten days. He left the message nine days ago. FML

Wouldn't there be some sort of written notice involved? Ask for more time because you didn't receive an eviction notice on paper.

Why get email if you're not going to check it? It's like not checking mail, getting a phone and not answering it or listening to messages. You deserve it.

maybe the service was down. it wasnt "i decided to actually check my messages" it was "i was ABLE to check my messages" as if there was no access before.

Why are there so many new FML's about legal issues of which the OP doesn't know that the law is in their favor?

Hm. The bank foreclosed on one of my hubby's landlords (this was about ten years ago), and they couldn't do anything about it. He and about 50 other residents in the complex got to squat rent-free for six months.

Better get packing and get off of FML if you dont wanna have your stuff out on the side walk for hobos to pick up.

under most laws, foreclosure or not, he has to give you 30 days minimum. in some states it's up to 90 days

Why hasn't Obama made fireclosures illegal yet? we need to keep people in their homes. you're going to throw someone on the street bc of MONEY?? that's sick. landlords who even attempt to evict should be fined and the jailed with a minimum term of 2 years. enough is enough

I'm just curious as to what you think you should happen if people don't pay their rents... should they be allowed to simply continue living in the building, even if it's costing the landlord significant financial hardship?
