Content almost refused by staff

Today, whilst travelling interstate I had to stop for a bathroom break. I also had the hiccoughs. As I waiting for the bathroom, a stranger came up behind me and grabbed me unexpectedly, in an effort to scare away my hiccoughs. It didn't work but needless to say I no longer needed the bathroom! FML

Is hiccoughs a foreign thing or a typo? I've only ever heard them called hiccups.

Both variations are acceptable :) "Hiccough" was a later variation on the spelling "hiccup" (in the 1600's) due to a folk etymology (I.e people confused it with a cough so it developed that spelling)
