Today, I was pulled over by the cops for a random breathalyzer test. They asked to see my license. I always keep my wallet in my car for situations like this. I received a $100 ticket because my mum apparently didn’t think it was a good idea to keep my wallet in the car. FML

It's actually not a good idea, but in this case it's unfortunate. Ps. They've invented these new things called pockets.

To be pulled over for a breathalizer, at least in Canada and the States, they HAVE to have reasonable and probable grounds to give you that test. So there must of been something more happening with the OP instead of just getting a random breathalizer test.

In Australia, they've had a huge campaign of Random Breath Testing since the 80s. Every police car has the machines and they also have huge 'booze buses' which will block a lane and pull in hundreds of cars over a night. It's had a dramatic effect on drink driving. You might get pulled over a couple of times a year, but it's certainly a routine thing, and I think most people support it. In some states, they've also started to introduce random drug mouth swabs.

You internets people assume too much. I dont leave my wallet in the car when im out. I leave it in the car when im at home. On a farm. In the middle of nowhere. Whos going to steal it? The cows? Different countries have different laws. Here, they can pull over random people in "hot spots" and test them as much as they please. Also, as someone else mentioned I had to take my licence into the police HQ. But i still had to pay the fine (they don’t like learner drivers here). Source of info: Is Australian and wrote the fml.

Fair cop OP. I had friends out on Norfolk Island that not only didn't lock their cars, they didn't even have door locks on their house. I guess it's all about circumstance.

Quit your whinging OP. Learn some responsibility & make a habit of picking up your licence/wallet before leaving the house. Another option would be making sure you have it before driving. You know the rules so follow them.

Oh shutup 105 - If you bothered to read you would see he keeps his wallet in his car when he's not driving and that his mom [whom he obviously lives with] took it upon herself to remove it from the car without telling him. If he never takes his wallet from his car he has no reason to check for it before driving, an outside force acted irresponsibly. I keep my wallet in my car all the time - I don't bother to check for it at home or grab it because when I go out I know it's in my car waiting for me. It's a matter of routine that was messed up by someone who failed to mention the end result.

Yeah good one mate. Even if OP leaves her wallet in her car, she should still make sure it is there before driving. No excuses.

you have 48 hours to prove that you have a license, and if you do, they can't ticket you. besides, I can't see why they wouldn't look it up on their laptops. unless they're military police, they don't typically have access to that.

Back to the same old thing - you realise the laws where YOU are aren't the same as everywhere else?

you should still have your ID on you at all times don't blame her for your stupidity

Why the **** do you not keep your wallet on your person? YDI for not paying attention to your own belongings.

Like many other commenters have pointed out, it's really your fault for not keeping your wallet/ID on you. Given, your mom shouldn't have removed stuff without telling you. But you were probably one break-in away from losing your ID and wallet anyway. So, it's a good wake-up call. Always make sure you have your ID with you before leaving the house, YDI.

Yeah, I would ask your mom to pay the ticket...Unless the breathalyzer came up positive...
