Today, my doctor said I "might" have an enlarged heart and an irregular heartbeat. It "could" be seriously life-threatening and I "should" go to a specialist for further tests. My insurance refuses to cover my consultation with the specialist because the doctor's wording is too uncertain. FML

Today, my doctor ordered me an EKG to help my health anxiety. I have panic attacks and feel like my heart is out of rhythm, but my doctors have all told me it’s just in my head. I got the test results. I meet with the cardiologist next week to discuss surgery. FML

Today, I took my friend to the emergency room because he was having heart problems. The doctors recognized him, and one of them had something to say: "Charles, can you not wait until you're practically dying to seek medical treatment?" This is gonna be a long day. FML

Today, I was told by a doctor that I have a fatal disease, and that I should start making preparations for when I pass away. Then, another doctor showed up, panicking, and said that was meant for someone else with the same first name as me. The mini-heart attack I had at that moment almost killed me anyway. FML

Today, I went to see a doctor because I have been feeling of pressure in my chest. After running numerous tests, I was told I was perfectly healthy and had nothing to worry about. I made it as far as the front door before I collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital. FML

Today, I went to see a doctor due to some gastric distress I have. I came out with directions to buy a blood pressure monitor, I'm prohibited from doing sports, and have a possible diagnosis of arterial hypertension which I am way too young to have. FML

Today, I’ve been asking both my health insurance and the clinic in question under which circumstances an elective procedure would be covered by insurance. Each one of them tells me that the other has to make the decision. FML

Today, I finally got insurance after months of paperwork, and so I went to the doctor. I was billed $873 for a "consultation" that pretty much consisted of being weighed and told to "Google it." FML

Today, after three months of wait, I expected to have a diagnosis and treatment plan from my doctor. Instead, I got an appointment with a surgeon "just to be sure", and an appointment with a GP to get referrals to two other doctors for more appointments. Meanwhile, my health gets worse and worse. FML

Today, after months of being told I have pneumonia by different doctors, I decided to go to another hospital with better staff. There I learned that I will actually need to have open heart surgery to replace two valves in my heart. FML

Change your doctor to your ex-doctor and get a new one. My story: I went for years to the family doctor my wife went to forever. I had pain and numbness in my legs and difficulty with stairs. The quack said it was old age and stenosis of the spine. <stuff>happens. Finally I went to a new doctor. He got me a MRI, found a synovial cyst on my spinal chord and referred me to a neurosurgeon. All of a sudden I could walk properly again. Bad or indifferent doctors can be the worst thing that can happen to you. Especially if you believe them...

The doctor's done nothing wrong. They referred them to a cardiologist who is more qualified to make a diagnosis of an enlarged heart and can run tests that a primary care physician can't. This is completely normal and how the system is set up- you don't go to a specialist unless you have a referral. Your situation is totally different- you were misdiagnosed and you seeked a second opinion.

While the doctor was correct to use vague wording on the diagnosis, they are supposed to be certain when saying a specialist is needed. For example, "patient might have an enlarged heart, which would be life-threatening if true. A specialist is NEEDED to diagnose."
