Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. I'm already a clumsy person but became extra clumsy because I was nervous. After knocking over my drink for the fourth time, my boyfriend's mom angrily shouted "Did you actually come drunk for the first time meeting us?" FML

4 times... wow... twice... okay, but 4? Anyway, it sucks that that is the first impression they have of you, but let's hope your boyfriend clears your name, and the next time you meet them concentrate on being extremely careful, as to not further damage your reputation.

how does nervousness translate to drunk? Ive been both plenty of times, and they're very different attitudes. its easy enough just to mention that you're kind of nervous. I would think that any parent who dated or had a social life of their own can understand. either that or they're just asses, in which case you shouldn't worry about impressing them so much anyway.

His mom was probably just frustrated because you'd knocked over your drink four times, especially if they were closed to eachother, and if it was a big drink. If it took a long time to clean up, then after a fourth time, his mom may have been very frustrated. That does suck though, I mean, a first impression means alot, you can always remedy it though, not the end of the world

yeah. first impressions are everything. while i'll admit...spilling 4 drinks is a lot but really? to yell at her? his mom's a bitch. the best thing, i think, to do would be to explain next time that you were nervous and you get clumsy when you're nervous. apologize and start over.

i made a great first impression. but my bitch of an ex says i am an asshole for spending quality time with her dad. she claims i was ignoring her. i wasn't ignoring anyone. i spent tons of time with her. Melody knew how nervous i was about meeting her dad. and her dad and i hit it off great and did stuff together. TV, Videogames, and melting plastic army men into a cool sculpture. i made a good first impression. how am i an asshole for making a good first impression? what do you guys reading this think?

I completely understand, I'm the same way. Clumsy by nature, but nervous, or distracted by anything makes it worse. My thing has always been walking into doors, because I just don't seem to notice them...being clumsy does cause awkward moments. But if your bf really does like you, he will explain to his mom what happened and make her be nicer next time. I hope everything works out!
