Today, I wanted to use my gift card for a liquor store. I went to pay the cashier, who said he needed to see my license. I gave it to him, along with my gift card. After paying, he asked me if I wanted him to cut it up, since the card was now worthless. I said yes. He cut up the wrong card. FML

#4: Actually, the cashier is required to hold the license in their hands and examine it closely to make sure it isn't counterfeit. Most licenses have a watermark that reflects when held the right way, this is why they are supposed to actually hold it in their hands. So, in short: shut up, you have no idea what you're saying. As for the OP, sucks dude. I hope you're getting the cashier to pay for it!! :/

Geeze, what a pain! That's like when I went to a shop and found this gorgeous bracelet that suited me perfectly. After I payed for it, I asked the female working there if she could cut the tag off so I could wear it straight away. She cut the actual bracelet, so all the beads fell off. That was the only one they had in store, and she didn't even say sorry. :(

I still don't understand what the purpose of cutting the empty gift card was. If it was empty, it's not like you have to worry about someone stealing it and using it.

Everyone, it could have been an American Express gift card, in which case they would probably want it cut up because it looks like a credit card.

#37, the cashier was talking about cutting up the gift card, and asked the guy if he wanted to cut it up for him because there was no more money on it.... when your done with gift cards, you usually cut them up beacuse they look like credit cards, and plus there's no use for them anyways...
