You really don't need to use detergent on your clothes every time. Unless you are getting them very greasy, or it's perhaps an undershirt, normal wear should not require constant use of detergent. It's actually better for your clothes, as the water and agitation will sufficiently cleanse them. The detergent will start to wear them out faster.

You forgot to add laundry detergent five times in a row?
Detergent doesn't wash out of fabric well. I'm sure your clothes had enough left over from previous laundry days to get the job done. Especially if towels were involved at all.

it's ok you don't need detergant. i'm sure the smell of water will make them smell fine.
