But as a police officer it IS his business to know if suspicious looking people are doing something illegal. There is no need to be rude. Just say "nothing, officer" and be done with it.

I'm surprised at the amount of people defending OPs friend. I bet some of you think that it's funny to shout "bomb!" In an airport or tell your therapist that you want to commit suicide as a joke. The cop was just doing his job. He needs to take these kind of things seriously and OPs friend was being an ass. He deserved it completely. OP, not so much
