Today, I grounded my son after finding out that he's been bullying other kids at school. He got mad and screamed at me, calling me a "bastard". Instead of defending me, my wife got pissed and accused me of having taught our son to swear like that. I can never win. FML

What's wrong with spanking? When I was spanked, it struck me that I was doing wrong and I never did the same thing again. It's not abuse. It's sad people don't know the difference anymore. You wanna know why your kids are so spoiled and defiant? Simple. You never punished them. Not disciplining is actually abusive because they won't know right from wrong, so it'll be your fault if they turn out badly.

Some people just don't see the difference. I was spanked when I was a kid and I learned when I did wrong. Most people just have a bad experience with their parents going over board and it ruins the whole idea for them. I'm gay, so I will probably never have a kid, but if I do they will be spanked just like I was. Done correctly, it's discipline, not abuse.

When I was little, my stepdad spanked me for the stupidest shit. (ex: getting upset when I didn't want to leave somewhere ie. The beach, friends house, home) I'll admit I had my tantrums like every other kid, but I wasn't that horrible. My stepdad's spankings hurt really bad too, and his strict discipline style led me to fear him for pretty much all my life now. I'm 15 now and he has left my mom, I don't keep any contact with him or anything. So, in my opinion, spanking should only be a last resort if not used at all. If I ever have kids, I'll be damned if I hurt them in any way... Discipline or not.

It seems like everyone is on one end of the spectrum or another. I was spanked when I was younger, but not for every little mistake I made. A lot of the time they took away things, just yelled at me, or just completely ignored me, and I got that I did wrong with those punishments too.
