Today, I was turned down for a job as a cashier at Best Buy. I worked like hell to get into and then graduate from one of the top Telecommunication schools in the country. I spent all my time with extracurriculars to help my resume instead of partying like my friends. I can't even be a cashier. FML

You sound like a driven individual that will give a sustained effort to excel. You are clearly not Best Buy material. Take your rejection as a compliment.

I know how you feel. I got accepted in one of the best colleges of my city and I got fired from freaking Tim Hortons. Some people just aren't made for small jobs (it takes me months just to find one), but that doesn't mean they fail at life. Cheer up!

You missed my point. For someone with a degree in telecommunications, being a cashier at Best Buy is a rather menial job. Even the management there would recognize that the OP will quickly get bored with the work and move on. Best Buy's rejection letter should have started, "It's not you, it's me. . ."

You're way overqualified for best buy. If you want a part time job to hold you over wash dishes or deliver pizza.

I'm in a similar situation. For over a year, I've applied to every available retail store within my city and three surrounding cities. I'm rejected for every job because I lack experience. Gee....I wonder why I lack experience....

Maybe it's because being a cashier is a different skill-set than telecommunications. Shouldn't you be troubleshooting internet queries?

You set your sights too high. Cashier is a position that can only be achieved after years of work at Best Buy. Next time, apply for custodial work or stock boy and hope you can work your way up.

Cashiers are the bottom of the barrel at best buy. we hire sales ppl... Not cashiers... grow a pair, apply for sales.

if you graduated from one of the top telecommunication schools in the country, then why did you work so hard to get a job at best buy? you are obviously overqualified and someone with your intelligence should be able to figure that out.

It's hard to get a job right out of college! I graduated in December of '08 with my bachlors in crim and a high GPA and I just found a good job in October of this year. Before I landed this job I worked in retail at macys. People have these things called bills and of you don't pay them you really don't get that far in life.

if you're still in college you have nothing to say to people out of it because you have no idea what they are going through.. it doesnt matter if you know people that are making it work or whatever because some people get lucky and some are unfortunate. until you come out to the real world, dont assume you know what it is like.
