Yeah, you were overqualified. They won't hire you if they think you'll go somewhere else that's more fitting for your qualifications. The only way you could possibly get over that happening is to really talk up wanting to work your way up the ranks in the company, but that can backfire, too. Been there and it sucks.
I love all the comments from kids who are obviously still in school. We are in a recession kiddos. All the major companies don't want you unless you have years of experience... Which we, who recently graduated, have not. For those of you who think that working at Best Buy is this person's dream job... don't worry about it. We can't blame you if your intellect is THAT low. To the FML: Try applying as a temp for the holidays... That is how my brother got hired last year... If they like you they will keep you... and if not, at least your bills are paid through New Years.
Yrs of experience to be a cashier @ BB? lolol.
Also, companies know that recent college graduates are trying to find part time work until they get a full time job. It will cost the company more if they hire someone that is going to leave them shortly than if they hire someone they feel will be with the company longer. It happened to my girlfriend when she graduated college. She couldn't get a job at starbucks because they felt she would leave the first chance she got. Which of course, is what would have happened. Don't take it personally, it's just business.
The world needs ditch diggers too, ya know.
I was in a similar boat. I went to an ivy league school and after graduating I applied to a bunch of shitty jobs(retail is shitty) while waiting for jobs on my field to open up. I was rejected from all the jobs applied for, so modified my resume for shitty jobs - removing my degree and any references I went to college. After doing that I was getting a good 50% response rate So the lesson is: make your resume pattern the type of person that the company normally hires. Best buy employs highschoolers, people w/ a GED, and maybe with associates. If your qualifications are beyond their normal employee they know you are going to quit as soon as something better comes.
TeleCommunications not a real field? Umm, then how would phone companies even exist??? Don't worry OP, hiring managers are sexist, racist, or whatever they have to be to get loyal employees.
It's called being overqualified. People aren't going to hire you as a cashier if you have a degree in telecommunications. It wouldn't be fair to the employment industry. People with no degrees need jobs too. You sould probably try to work at best buy as a manager or think about looking at jobs away from where you live now. There's surely a job opening somewhere in the company
lol top telecommunications schools... well I went to the top junior college and can't find a job but you don't hear me bitching
Did you ever think that MAYBE Best Buy just wasn't hiring at the time? It could have nothing to do with you. I know that they have all of the seasonal people they need for now, so it could just be that.

You sound like a driven individual that will give a sustained effort to excel. You are clearly not Best Buy material. Take your rejection as a compliment.
its the damn economy, not your fault...
