theres a reason why. telecommunications blows, get a real major
...I'm not sure why everyone seems to be missing that the OP went to a university with a strong telecommunications program rather than a literal "telecommunications school" which teaches nothing else. I might (truthfully) say that I go to a top photojournalism school- it means that my university is known for its photojournalism program, not that it's the only thing it offers. I'm also not sure why people are griping that telecommunications isn't a "real" major. Unless you're planning on graduate or professional school, it matters that you have a degree, not what you have your degree in. You can work in an office equally well whether you majored in telecommunications, English, or puppeteering. Anyway, the bottom line is that Best Buy's hiring system sucks. Every step of it, from the strongly biased pre-employment test to their inability to actually conduct an interview, makes it increasingly clear that they don't care in the least about their employees. You're better off without that job.
Just gotta say, I work for Best Buy, and they make their hiring process hard for a reason: So a bunch of dumb asses don't walk in and steal everything. Also, Best Buy works hard to take care of the employees that actually care about their job, the idiots who try to get a free-be, of course they don't care about them, who does? But the people who actually try get taken care of. It's not a matter of who you know, but who you are.
it's called the economy. get over it.
It's likely because you are pompous. Your post makes it sound like you believe yourself to be better than your friends and therefore entitled to the job. As an interviewer for my company, I would assume your lack of tact(most likely because you didn't party and learn how to interact properly) got your application ignored. The economy isn't the reason you couldn't get a job.
Wait, really, so I can tell companies that I went out and got wasted with my friends and tried to pass out on the lawn? I kid. Or do I?
Seriously? Go party and shut up. YDI.

I used to work for Best Buy. About... 70% of the stores, you have to know somebody who works there to get hired. So don't worry about it too much... if you did know someone in the store and still couldn't get you in, then they didn't work hard or did nothing for you. Friends... bah...
I was feeling sorry for the poster because who hasnt been turned down for a job? but then the poster as well as some comment made me feel otherwise. if you went into the interview with this attitude the interviewer probably caught on that you felt you were better than the job. "I cant even be a cashier" like it was the lowest job he could think of. which also brings to mind that this was probably his attempt to getting his first job, since all his extracurricular time was spent padding his resume he probably didnt have to work a job while going to school. Some people work their butts off as cashiers or "whatever" to get into schools while other work as hard as they can and can never afford "higher education" Now I have never worked for best buy or anything but some people work very hard at being "cashiers" either because it's the only job they can get or for other reasons. If the "real world" worked where everyone got what they deserved due to how hard the work and how earnest they were all the "good" people would be rich and have dream lives and all the "lazy bad poor people" would die off making us a better race. Hard work and trying to make yourself a better person is good but in the end all it entitles you too is to continue to work hard and keep going.

You sound like a driven individual that will give a sustained effort to excel. You are clearly not Best Buy material. Take your rejection as a compliment.
its the damn economy, not your fault...
