Lost but not stolen.. It only works if someone takes it to the vet or some kind of shelter to get it scanned. It's not like you can track it. If I stole a dog I wouldn't let them scan it at the vets, would you?

You're irresponsible. Regardless of where you put your dog, always keep an eye on him or her, especially if they're pedigree. Dog-theft is a huge problem. You should also have went to the vet to see about having him microchipped, which means, should he escape his captors, there is a possibility he could be returned to you.
