Today, I learned that I can work out for over an hour a day, cut my daily calories by almost half, keep careful track of my diet, drink nothing but water, and not lose a pound. But I can sure as hell gain weight after one dinner at a buffet. FML

How long have you been on your new diet/workout plan? Have you been keeping track of your measurements? You do know new muscle weighs more than lost fat, right? and if you weighed yourself the same day as your buffet, the added weight is just food in your intestines. Why do people always associate successful health plans with numbers on a scale?

How long have you been dieting? If you really haven't lost any weight perhaps you should see a doctor.

u don't have to cut ur kcals so much, just eat healthier stuff like cheese and salad, even if u eat it with some dressing the veggies will balance it, I've lost 6 kilo doin this 1300 kcal every day

She means water intend of soda and what not.

well, if ur on a diet and u aren't losing weight, maybe u need a better diet plan. and of course when u eat at a buffet u gain weight! it's common!

that's your fault for pigging out at the buffet... now you know to NOT go to those anymore...

I'm thinking that op forgot to mention that her strict diet that cut intake in half involved going from a large pizza and a bucket of chicken for dinner to a medium and a roast turkey leg. It's not about how much you take in it's what you take in and how much you burn. If your workout is a slow waddle on the treadmill it doesn't really count.

yeah IMO you have to have a balance of good healthy food and regular exercise ... not just a buffet and a run on the treadmill and expect to not gain weight.

A slow waddle is better than nothing if it's coming from a person who is obese and hasn't done any form of exercise in tears. It can be dangerous to try too much at once especially being overweight because of the extra strain on the heart

I tried to thumbs up the last comment and missed it… Now I feel really guilty. :(

Perhaps you're not recording your calorie intake as accurately as you think you are? Talk to a nutritionist or a dietitian. If they can't find anything that you're doing wrong then maybe check with your doctor. Too often people lose their motivation too quickly because the weight doesn't drop off straight away - they're convinced they're body is somehow wired against weight loss and it's all too hard to stick to it. Usually despite their fantastic intentions they are doing *something* wrong. You just need to find out what that tweak is. If you educate yourself by visiting the right professionals, follow their advice and it still doesn't work - then go down the medical avenue, but don't jump to that conclusion first. G'Luck.

maybe if you want to lose weight you should go on a healthy eating plan not a diet (they never work) and going to a buffet isn't the best idea

OP-that does suck, but two things can ensure you start seeing results-first, see a doc to get tested for thyroid D/O, diabetes and other metabolic disease-then see an ACE certified personal trainer-ensure it is one who will work with your eating habits and weightloss goals.

ACE personal trainers honestly are the least credible. Anybody and their mother can get an ACE certification without doing dick. NASM trainers however have to go through a lot to get certified and the tests are hard as ****.

been there done that do I know how shitty it feels. next time your at the gym try shorter harder card sessions (like 10 minutes cross trainer so your heart is beating so hard it wants to fall out) and add in some weights. works as a change for most people xx you wanna be doing 3x25 reps for toning. good luck xxxx

ReynshineCutting 10

25 reps is too high and won't do anything but tire you out. 12-16 reps is ideal for weight loss. Also, you don't want to work out to the point your heart feels like it's going to come out of your chest. That can be dangerous. You should find out your max heart rate and then do interval training from there which requires monitoring your heart rate the whole time.
